Hi friends,

I have been 'quiet' in here lately due to flu. I am happy to say
that I have recovered now. If anyone knows any 'special weapon'
against flu, please let me know since I am most susceptible.
Preventive measures are most welcomed.

During the struggles between my immune system and the viruses, I
am thankful that the abundant bedtime required gave me much
needed rest; as we tend to be caught up in the web of busyness
without realizing other details of life. I also have the chance
to review my new year resolution, and have a deeper realization
that I will not be able to achieve any of it, without committing
myself to rely on God and to follow His will.

Now that I get my old strength back, I am more focused in my
life, and hopefully stronger :) So in here, I wish everyone --

A Happy and Healthy Chinese New Year!
And a happy New Year's Eve gathering with your family and loved
ones tonight!

The Christmas Eve's candle light service does help kids better understand the true meaning of Christmas. I always remember how I got candies & toys from the service when I was in grade school.
The service as well as small gifts do remind me of the spiritual meaning of the special event. Last night,
I brought my 9-year-old and 7-year-old nephews to the candle light service by a Taiwanese-speaking Presbyterian church
in Northern Virginia. To my nephews, it was their first Christmas' worship service since their parents are not Christians.
After the service, they told me that the service was 'cool' although they did not fully understand the pastor's sermon. And,
my 9-year-old nephew said to me,'I did really like the pastor's black Christmas costume.' (p.s. The pastor was wearing a traditional pastoral gown)

True, we should remember what the real meaning of
Christmas is. Every year, pastors, Christian friends
are always reminding people not to forget the true
meaning of Christmas. I really appreciate that, actually,
I did that too.

The problem is, people seem to be always expecting
something "New" instead of something "good". So it's a
little difficult to draw people's attention back to the
faith during this season.

Just like sharing Jesus's story with kids during this
season, they always express bore and inpatience, shouting
"Not again, I know all of the stories, I've been listening
these stories over and over again, did you have anything
new ?" Sometimes, I really feel a little bit disappointed
about myself.

Can somebody share his or her experince about how to "refresh"
our faith during this commercialized Christmas ?
